Category A Electric Cars Singapore: Buyer Comparison

Understand the 110kW electric-car COE threshold, check exact local variants and compare quotations, batteries, charging and ownership costs.

Updated · Editorial method & corrections

Category A is a variant check, not a brand label

LTA’s transition-to-EVs guidance states the Category A maximum power threshold for electric cars is 110kW. A model family can contain variants in different categories. Confirm the local registered variant rather than inferring eligibility from a badge, battery size or overseas review.

One directly confirmed local example

At the 15 October 2026 source check, BYD Singapore’s Sealion 7 page identifies the Dynamic 100kW as Category A and quotes 405km WLTP range. Treat that as a statement about the named variant, not every Sealion 7. Confirm the order specification, registration data and current availability in a written quotation.

Use the same comparison sheet for every Cat A EV

ItemWhat to recordWhy it matters
Variant and COEFull local variant name, motor kW and stated COE categorySimilar names can refer to different vehicles.
Driveaway priceDate, guaranteed/non-guaranteed COE, fees, rebates and finance conditionsA headline number can omit costs or depend on financing.
Battery and rangeChemistry, capacity type, range cycle and wheel sizeWLTP city and combined figures are different.
ChargingAC onboard limit, DC test window and charger conditionsA maximum power figure is not the average session rate.
SupportWarranty limits, servicing, transfer rules and local repair arrangementsAn equipment list does not measure after-sales support.
Daily useChild seats, boot, seating comfort and charge-port reachThe cheapest quotation may not fit your parking or family routine.

Budget beyond the COE category

A Cat A label alone cannot establish the lowest total ownership cost. Compare depreciation assumptions, road tax, insurance quotations and the charging routine you can actually use. Test a public-only charging scenario if you cannot install a charger at home.

Use the ownership-cost comparison, the dated rebate guide and the road-tax explanation.

Compare before committing

Take the same questions to every dealer, request the final specification and quotation in writing, and test drive the exact variant where possible. This page does not rank every Cat A EV or claim that an unverified model is available. It gives you a repeatable way to compare local offers.
