The cheapest charger depends on your visit
A low advertised electricity rate may be outweighed by parking charges or an extra journey. Compare the cost of the entire stop, especially when choosing between a nearby charger and a cheaper location further away.
Use this simple comparison
Total stop cost = billed electricity + parking + session fees + idle fees + extra travel cost. Your time also matters, even when you do not put a dollar value on it.
An illustrative example, not a live tariff
For a 30 kWh session, a charger priced at S$0.60/kWh costs S$18 for electricity. Add S$6 parking and the stop costs S$24. Another charger at S$0.70/kWh costs S$21 for the same billed energy; if parking is free, that stop is cheaper overall. These are example inputs, not provider quotations.
Check rates just before charging
- Confirm the location-specific AC or DC rate in the operator’s app.
- Check whether prices include GST and whether discounts require a membership.
- Read parking grace periods, session charges and idle-fee conditions.
- Compare a consistent amount of billed energy, rather than an advertised “full charge”.
Build a shortlist of convenient locations
Keep a regular location and a backup. The best-value option is one you can use reliably without adding an inconvenient trip.
Plan your public charging routine →EV charging rates: questions before comparing
How do I compare the cheapest EV charging in Singapore?
Compare the current price for the exact charger together with parking, idle charges and any detour. Restricted-access chargers and promotions may not suit every driver. Keep the same energy requirement and visit duration when comparing options.
Does a lower price per kWh always mean a cheaper charging stop?
No. A lower tariff can be outweighed by paid parking or an extra journey. Compare the total bill and the time you spend, then use the cost calculator below with your own current tariff.
Published charging prices and what still needs checking
Source review: 15 October 2026. This is a small comparison of published information, not a live islandwide price ranking. Charger tariffs and parking terms must be checked at the exact point before starting.
| Location / network | Published information | What to verify before charging |
|---|---|---|
| IKEA Alexandra and Tampines | IKEA’s charging terms list S$0.45/kWh and 10am–10pm access. | Confirm the selected charger’s app rate, GST treatment and store parking rules. A website rate is not a completed-session quotation. |
| Charge+ Tampines Retail Park cluster | Operator’s 31 July 2026 announcement describes free parking at the charging stations. | The announcement does not establish a current electricity tariff for each charger; check the app and the exact bay. |
| SP Mobility | Location-specific energy rate: check the SP app. | Check whether the selected point carries idle fees under the September 2026 rules. |
| Shell Recharge | Location-specific energy rate: check the operator interface. | Check the location’s grace period and any parking charge. |
Do not use a residents-only, staff-only or membership-restricted tariff as the cheapest publicly accessible option. Discounts and subscription prices need their conditions stated alongside the rate.
A charging-stop comparison you can use
Start with the billed kWh you want to buy. Add parking for the time you will actually stay, the session fee, any detour cost and possible idle charges. An electricity discount can disappear once these costs are included. Use the comparison tool below to test two stops with your own inputs.
Compare current published idle-fee rules or prepare the operator apps.
