EV Road Tax Singapore: kW & AFC

Understand Singapore electric-car road tax, power rating in kW, the additional flat component and the checks to make before buying an EV.

Updated · Editorial method & corrections

How is EV road tax calculated in Singapore?

For fully electric cars, OneMotoring bases road tax on the vehicle’s motor power rating in kilowatts. Its published schedule also includes an additional flat component (AFC). The current table quotes six-monthly figures, so keep the renewal period clear when comparing a dealer’s annual estimate.

As checked on 15 October 2026, the electric-car AFC is S$350 for six months, equivalent to S$700 across a full year. The power-related part is additional. Always confirm the charge for the exact registered vehicle through OneMotoring’s vehicle tax structure.

kW, battery size and driving range are different

Battery capacity in kWh describes stored energy; power in kW describes output. A larger battery or longer WLTP range does not by itself tell you the road-tax amount. Similar-looking cars can have different registered power ratings across variants.

  • Record the local model and variant, including the number of driven motors.
  • Ask for the registered maximum power rating and road-tax estimate.
  • Confirm whether the quoted figure covers six or twelve months.
  • For a used car, check the existing vehicle record and renewal date.

Compare the whole EV ownership budget

Use road tax as one line in your comparison alongside charging, insurance, servicing, tyres and depreciation. Keep the ownership period and annual distance the same for each shortlisted car. A more powerful variant may offer performance you enjoy, but compare its recurring bill before committing.

EV road tax: quick questions

Does road tax depend on battery capacity?

For fully electric cars the official schedule is based on motor power rating, with an AFC. Do not substitute battery capacity in kWh for motor power in kW.

Is the AFC the whole annual road tax?

No. It is added to the power-related road-tax component. Check the total for the registered car and the renewal period.
