AC or DC: choose for the time you have
AC charging uses the car’s onboard charger to convert electricity for the battery. DC charging supplies direct current to the battery and can support quicker stops. The actual rate depends on the car, charger, battery temperature and state of charge. Nozzle count is not a reliable way to identify charging speed.
Find an EV charging station
LTA points drivers to MyTransport.SG for publicly accessible charging locations and availability information. Check the operator’s own app for the precise charger, payment method, current tariff and site conditions before travelling.
Your first charging session
- Park so the cable reaches without being stretched or obstructing another bay.
- Check the connector and follow the charger or operator app instructions.
- Confirm that the session has started and monitor progress.
- End the session through the required controls, disconnect and move the car when finished.
Match charging to your day
A longer shopping or work stop can suit AC charging. DC can be useful when a quick top-up is worth the price. Peak advertised power is not the same as average power throughout a session; charging often slows as the battery fills.

EV charging Singapore: common questions
Where can I find EV charging stations in Singapore?
Check your chosen operator’s location and availability information, then verify public access, opening hours, connector type and parking rules. Use the EV charging apps and operator directory and the preserved charging-provider links.
What is the difference between AC and DC charging?
AC charging uses the car’s onboard charger to convert power for the battery. DC charging supplies converted power from the charging equipment. The car, charger and battery conditions together determine the speed. Read the full AC vs DC charging explanation.
How long will my charging session take?
For an initial estimate, divide the billed energy required by an average charging rate. For example, an illustrative 20 kWh session at a constant 7 kW would take about 2.9 hours. The actual rate can vary with the car’s onboard charger, shared charger power, battery temperature, state of charge and tapering. Setup and parking time are additional.
Peak DC power is not a continuous session average. Compare like-for-like charging windows such as 10–80%, and check the test conditions. Follow the manufacturer’s daily charge limit rather than applying a universal limit from battery chemistry alone.
Read the manufacturer’s battery-care guidance for an example of vehicle-dependent charging limits; use your own vehicle’s manual for the actual instructions.
